As an interior designer, few projects are as fulfilling as those that allow history, heritage, and modern lifestyle to intertwine seamlessly. When our clients set their sights on a semi-custom home nestled among the moss-draped live oaks, lakes and wide porches of old-Florida's Winter Garden, we knew we had the foundation for something special.

They were captivated by the nostalgic charm of the architecture—tall doors, elegant transoms, wide plank flooring, and generous moldings that whisper stories of Southern heritage. Their new home was a fresh beginning, but one deeply rooted in tradition. And so our design journey began—with a space we affectionately dubbed “The Ladies Lounge.”
A Nod to Louisiana Roots
The “Ladies Lounge” was imagined as a deeply personal space—a soft landing zone that gracefully balances form and function. Inspired by the homeowners’ Louisiana roots, we drew on that slow, sultry Southern elegance to create a room that serves equally well as a home office and an afternoon cocktail retreat. The blue ceiling is a nod to the haint-blue porches found throughout the southeast, tying in culture with an unexpected pop of color.
Mossy green envelops the walls, bringing in the color of Southern landscapes, grounding the room in nature while adding a cozy, enveloping mood. Window treatments—woven wood shades paired with light-filtering drapery—soften the light and invite the outdoors in, echoing the layered beauty of old Southern homes.
Where Past Meets Present
One of the most meaningful aspects of this project was incorporating our client’s family heirlooms—her great-grandmother’s china hutch, secretary and antique lamp. These pieces brought soul into the space and gave us the opportunity to build a story around them. Rather than designing around trends, we designed around memories.
The gallery wall became a pivotal moment in the room—our nod to the exuberance of New Orleans’ Jack Rose restaurant. We curated a collection of artwork and personal mementos that feels layered and eclectic, yet intentional. The effect is a space that looks collected over time rather than curated in a single sitting.

Functional Elegance
Because the lounge also needed to serve as a working office, we paid special attention to practical elements without sacrificing style. A ruffled custom desk skirt cleverly conceals a dining table—an unexpected detail that brings charm and femininity to utility.
A New Zealand wool rug from English Village Lane, ties everything together with its subtle weave of colors, connecting the green walls, patterned ottoman, and vibrant gallery wall in one cohesive, comforting palette.

The Result
The result is a room that feels authentically Southern, elegantly modern, and deeply personal. It's a reflection of who our clients are—grounded in tradition, but living in the present. A space to work, to relax, and to remember where they came from.
Designing the Ladies Lounge reminded us that the best rooms tell stories—not just of place and style, but of people. And this one? It’s a story we were honored to help tell.
