Tranquil Contemporary Floridian

Bay Hill, Florida

Bedroom, Living & Dining Rooms, Foyer

Interior Design & Soft Finishes

We're sharing a first look at our Bay Hill Beauty project by introducing this statement-making foyer.

The Grand Entry
The Grand Entry

A grand hall welcomes you into the home with soaring ceilings of 15 feet frame the octagonal entryway that serves as the center of the home, dividing the living areas from the bedrooms and a stunning view of the outdoors.

To anchor this entry, we selected a barely-there blue for the ceiling, to mimic the sky and a two tiered chandelier with its’ French gold finish and white linen shades atop natural rattan candelabras for a subtle yet modern nod to the tropics of Florida. Watery hues used throughout the home are presented at once in this foyer.

To enhance the height of the windows, we dressed the five windows in a vertically patterned garden inspired fabric from Fabricut,  featuring blue Delphinium florals climbing to the ceiling. The variety of blues and greens in this fabric allowed us to visually tie together the living area with the primary bedroom, which included a mix of florals, modern geometrics and natural materials.

Our original design for this foyer featured a round table centered under the chandelier with a round jute or sisal rug, however the homeowners felt that it would be less than ideal to circumvent this centered table and they opted for a demilune table which was placed on the center window facing the pool. Since our clients utilize their front door for walking their dogs, they needed a place to sit and put on or remove their shoes, so a pair of cornflower blue Chinoiserie style chairs on either side of the demilune table provided a soft and practical place to land.

Towards the south side of the home, a wing of bedrooms with en suite baths, a half bath, home office and laundry room awaits.

We thoughtfully designed around the recently renovated primary bathroom, with its open concept that flows into the bedroom. To soften the overly contemporary finishes, (which were not chosen by the homeowners),we took a more traditional approach to the walls and bedding.

Walls were painted in Glass Slipper by Benjamin Moore and paired with a large scale hydrangea print wallpaper by Thibaut, along the wall with the bed.

The wall of sliding doors which faces the pool was dressed in custom drapery, an off-white linen-like fabric softened with a layer of sheer panels behind, to ensure a beautiful view outdoors, while also offering some privacy. The drapes feature a fretwork style trim tape in cornflower blue.

Again tying in the traditional hydrangea wallpaper, we had Euro pillows and a bolster pillow custom made in the same print which paired beautifully with a new coverlet and shams from Ballard Designs.

Originally our clients desired a new upholstered platform bed, but they ended up keeping their espresso wood bedroom set for the time being. Future additions include a cloud-white rug with blue accents from Ruggable (a client request) which can live up to life with two pups.

Traveling through the expansive foyer to the main living area, an open concept kitchen and dining area welcomes you to the perfect floorplan for entertaining, which the homeowners do frequently!

With recent renovations completed before they purchased the home, our design work in this space was primarily focused on creating a sense of warmth and coziness while balancing contemporary finishes, such as the bold marble fireplace and the glass partitions to the sunken living room.

We began by incorporating symmetry on either side of the fireplace, adding in two rustic chests and a pair of arched mirrors framed in iron. This design helped to keep the black and brown of the stone in the fireplace from appearing too harsh against the blues and greens used in the rest of the space. The homeowners wanted to keep their sofa, so we freshened it up with new pillows to bring some color into the space. Additionally a black and cane modern coffee table paired with a Scandinavian style arm chair finished off the conversational layout.

Future additions to the living room will include drapery that coordinates with the primary bedroom, including sheers that soften the radiant daylight in this southern facing room.

Stepping up into the dining room, you’re greeted by a pair of blue arched cabinets set against the palest blue grass cloth wallpaper. As a way to tie together the living and dining rooms, we chose to add this Ballard Designs wallpaper, in addition to giving the overall space more warmth and a nod to their coastal Florida locale, while maintaining a delicate dance with modern finishes.

Our clients preferred to style their cabinets using items they’ve collected over the years, including cookbooks and heirloom dishes, along with figurines from their many trips to Disney theme parks across the globe.

Incorporating their existing dining set, we chose to have two large pendant lights hung above the table to remedy a modern and off-centered chandelier that was previously installed during the home’s renovation.

Intentionally slightly oversized for the space, we felt these pendants were the right decision since our clients didn’t desire to add any hanging lights over the kitchen island.

Future additions to the dining room will also include a fabric valance over the window between the cabinets and a new rug. All future additions have been sourced by Bleu Bee Designs and sent to the homeowners for purchase on their timeline.

I hope you’ve enjoyed our tour of this Bay Hill Beauty, nestled in the heart of Orlando, just an hour and a half away from the Gulf coast or Atlantic beaches. Our clients’ desires for a cozy yet modern Florida home was a joy to create for them.

Our clients opted for Luxury Virtual Design service, which allows them to have all designer selections procured, elevations and renderings created to approve the additional design touches. From there, we coordinated custom drapery and bedding, while the client was able to purchase items that we sourced on their timeline, overseeing installation.

With Luxury Virtual Design service, our design team will provide you with every detail needed to achieve the same level of beautiful design that you see in our portfolio. However, the difference is that this design is done completely virtually and you will execute the measuring, installation, and styling on your own. Depending on the project, we may be able to offer in-person installation. We also provide additional support for our luxury virtual design clients through our intensive Luxury Consultation.

Did you know we offer Luxury Virtual Design for all bedrooms, living and dining rooms? These spaces can easily be completed virtually if you're not local to us in Florida or Virginia.
